The Norwegians have their own way to build "green" homes literally. For hundreds of years the roofs of houses in Norway covered with natural grass in several varieties like wheat and oats and some have even small trees.
The advantages of roof lawn a lot. The roof becomes heavy stabilizing over the house, provide strong insulation and has tremendous life compared with roofs made of industrial materials. The only disadvantage is that it requires great effort to build.
Green roofs, or roofs SOD, is a tradition in Norway and will find anywhere. During the era of Viking and Middle Ages, most houses have green roofs. In rural areas, turf roofs were almost all homes.
When sometime industrial materials were a threat to exterminate the ancient tradition of the romantic awakened and tried to revive the style of houses today. A new market opened then with high demand for construction chalets and cottages.
